MC2 Exclusive: Caught! MINI's New JCW Diffuser Undergoing Testing Near Munich.
Our friends at CarPix Spionage recently captured this disguised JCW test sled with standard badging and camo. For 2012, JCW cars already get an aero package as standard, but from the looks of the ground effects on the front and tunnel diffuser on the rear, MINI may be experimenting with a new optional package for either JCW cars or for use on the MINI Challenge cars. What is interesting is that the 3-tunnel factory diffuser does not appear to deliver the same amount of performance as the 5-tunnel Group4 Autosport diffuser which also uses under car aerodynamics to improve ground holding. In the G4 design, the ramp angle of each chamber's roof is optimized to reduce the under-car drag of air rather than just having a diffuser that seems more a cosmetic appearance add-on as almost all MINI diffusers and rear wings have done these last several years. What we know so far about this MINI diffuser is not much. We're not 100% sure if the rear diffuser (and its accompanying front splitter) is available separately from buying the kit on a factory-built JCW. Their kit will not be available as a dealer-installed option at port of entry, so it may not be available at the parts counter for a later owner installation. As for material, it appears to be of carbon-fiber construction, but we don't as yet know the weight. The weight would indicate to us if it's C/F over aluminum honeycomb or 100% C/F. At this stage of the development no one knows if the diffuser is to be sold as part of the Aero Kit for factory installation, or if it will be available for owner installation and available over your MINI parts counter. We're betting it's factory only, and is part of a package that includes cosmetics, such as mirror caps. MC2 launches our first e-zine sites... A few months ago we took our first leap into the paper cyberspace with our e-zine system. Thousands viewed our site and read issues #28- #32 for FREE the first month and wanted more viewing formats. Our http://mc2.epubxp.com is now viewable using almost all platforms from PDF to smart phones, but not Kindle-type readers. It's FREE to view, but not downloadable or printable on this system. Want to download a past issue of MC2 magazine? We've loaded issue #20 from June-July 2009 as our first venture on to http://www.mediamongr.com/collections/mc2-magazine. It's $4.99 and then you have it available when and where you want to read it. We'll load more issues into MediaMongr during Fall as we close our sixth year publishing MC2.
Coming soon will be the re-launch of our GoMotoring MINI News site. MINI Cooper info, News, insight, scoops, club information, DIY/how-to, tech information, club information and so much more. Not just news from the factory on their sales and promotions, but real MINI Cooper news on the newest parts, mod's, racing, DIY & how-to from the aftermarket suppliers and advertisers of MC2. Stay tuned for our e-mails to subscribers and freinds as we have nearly $10,000 in swag for you all to find in your mailbox from sets of Bridgestone tires and wheels, to a $1,000 Mini Mania shopping spree. Of course, we'll have some our General Store swag to give away, too.
