MINI Takes The States If you're yearning for a little motoring this Summer, you just have to check out MINI Takes The States (part II). The party starts in Miami (June 13-15), then proceeds to Boston (June 20-22), Chicago (July 25-27 and ends in Los Angeles (August 1-3). Complete details are being posted daily by MINI USA, so click on the image here ( http://blog.minitakesthestates.com ) and join the thousands of MINIacs and MINIacs to be at each city. We at MC2 magazine will have a tent/booth at each city, along with other MINI partners, such as our friends at Ridemakerz (www.ridemakerz.com) and Sirius Satellite Radio (www.sirius.com), to sell our wares and talk with our readers and owners. This year's celebration is an event based in each of the four cities, so we'll have plenty of time to rub wing mirrors with everyone. Drop by and meet the staff, ask questions about your magazine, and see what we have in the way of promotions and swag you might just need.
 U.S. MINI Challenge Confirmed Dead?
Yes, it's true, the US MINI Challenge series may be down for the count. With MINI USA launching three new models this year, along with the four MTTS events, the challenge series has been put on the back burner. MC2 and sources were positive when we penned the story below two months ago, but it's not come true, as there's only so much money in the pot and little or none left for the challenge idea. Read our latest issue and "MINI News" on page 17 for the details.. Written March 2008... It’s almost official... MINI USA is working overtime on bringing the MINI Challenge cars to the United States! In our November-December issue (#11; see The MINI John Cooper Works Challenge, page 38) we wrote about the possibilities of the turn-key factory race program coming to the states after having spoken with numberous BMW/MINI executives, including Dr. Kay Segler, Senior VP of Brand Management (shown here at Frankfurt) at the Frankfurt Auto Show. We learned that MINI Europe personnel were very interested in bringing the MINI Challenge series to the U.S., but that MINI USA wasn't in a financial position to make it happen, nor did they seem to have the desire. Well, the situation has changed to our advantage, as the story we printed, plus hundreds of calls and e-mails from interested parties, had some effect on the New Jersey HQs, sufficient enough to...
